Tails from a dog


My first memories include her.  Soft always thinks of me first.  As soon as her eyes open, she is looking for me and I am waiting for her.   She pats my head and speaks in her soft, calming voice.  I know what comes next, its walk time.  She reminds me to stay close to her as we venture outside for our morning walk.  I love this part of the day.  Just me and Soft.  Soft has been my human since the beginning.  She is always walking me, feeding me and playing with me.  She even gives me bones to eat and when I’m really lucky bacon.  Bacon is my favorite. 

As the wind hits my fur I feel free.  Today I decide that I want to run.  I start off slowly and Soft reminds me not to go too far.  I listen at first.  I run then stop, run and stop.  As I look ahead of me I see trees and I just want to reach them.

Before I know it I am sprinting ahead.  Soft’s voice is faint now; I realize I can’t hear her anymore.  Just then a sound startles me.  I’m not sure what the sound is or where it is coming from.  As I turn to see what the sound is…
